Cooling your Home or Office with an Air-conditioner

On a sticky, hot summer day, there’s nothing like waving a magic wand (remote) and transforming warm air into icy-cool air. Sometimes it can be the only thing that makes a scorching day bearable. Whether you are at home or in an office, we strongly recommend having an air-conditioning option for every local home.

How do they work? Well Air-conditioners typically cool air through a process that replaces hot air in a room with cooler air that has passed through the refrigeration cycle. The refrigerant absorbs and removes heat from the space and expels it outside.

What are the main types of air-conditioning?

Split system: The cooling unit is installed outside with the heated unit (fans) mounted inside. A split system air conditioner is suited to cooling one or more adjoining rooms.

Portable air conditioner: Small, light and mobile, the portable air conditioner is movable from room to room. Portable units have a lower power output (than a split system), and suited to smaller spaces such as apartments and where permanent installation is not permitted.

Evaporative cooler: Air is cooled through the evaporation of water, which maintains healthy air moisture and offers an energy efficient alternative to conventional air conditioners. Evaporative coolers are suited to drier areas, normal away from the coast like Castlemaine.

What should you consider when buying an Air-conditioner?

  1. It’s important to accurately calculate the required cooling or heating capacity of your new air conditioner. Choose a model with equal or slightly greater capacity for the room, because:
    • Models too powerful for the room size may run frequent short cycles to achieve the target temperature – which is like tapping the accelerator in your car to maintain speed instead of applying steady pressure. This can result in inadequate dehumidification (making the room feel less comfortable), increased power usage, and wear and tear on the system.
    • Underpowered models may have to run more often at maximum output, dry the air too much and you’ll similarly suffer excessive wear.
  2. Air conditioning installation is best on the side of your house that gets the least sun, as direct sunlight can cause the unit to be less efficient – this is a guide only and we can confirm this for your own property.
  3. Mount the air conditioning unit high for efficient cooling that allows the cool air to sink through the room
  4. Each model has a recommended outdoor temperature operating range. Most models can operate in temperatures from about -10°C up to about 45°C or more. This is sufficient for most parts of Australia, but check with Robinsons Castlemaine before you buy to make sure it can cope with any extremes in your area.

Panasonic Air Conditioners

With an exceptional reputation for home and business electronics, Panasonic carries several HVAC (heating ventilation air-cooling) systems.

The latest ECONAVI technology features area search, absence recognition, and low activity detection to moderate the temperature according to room use. The new smart sunlight detection feature detects sunlight strength and adjusts cooling energy accordingly.

The Mild Dry Cooling feature helps avoid an accelerated decrease in air humidity while sustaining the set temperature, so the air is less dry, for a more comfortable environment within the home. Mild Dry Cooling reduces unwanted side effects of air conditioning, such as dry lips, throat or skin.

The new selection has an industry-leading range varying from -15o up to 46o, so even the harshest Australian temperature tends to be covered. The latest Panasonic Air Conditioning features an outstanding design with a stylishly clean, slimline style while the ventless intake grill makes the units easier to clean – perfect for any sort of modern Australian home.

Consumers can also choose Autocomfort mode that has the added feature of high activity detection to improve cooling when activity inside the room increases. Both the Autocomfort and ECONAVI features can be selected easily using the remote.

Panasonic also has a variety of Inverter Air Conditioners with a new stylish design, refined technology and smart features for air conditioning comfort. Panasonic’s Inverter technology makes constant adjustments to offer optimum performance all the time. This extremely accurate procedure enables fast cooling whenever required while reducing electric power usage compared to conventional non-Inverter models.

We have all the Panasonic Air-Conditioning models available at Robinsons Castlemaine.
